The first phase of the WNY Geo-Technical survey has been paid for by donations, and will be completed by the end of this year. Results from this phase will then assist us and the architectural firms who are going to create the monument in the Navy yard in DC to project a better estimation of actual hard costs for the project. This measure was needed prior to any physical construction being undertaken so that the Naval Command people at WNY would be satisfied that HSPIG did there best to ensure that the monument will be on a sound location.

In Dec. 2004, DC and MLB agreed to a public financing package to build a 41,000-seat baseball stadium, allowing the former Expos to move to DC. In Feb. 2006 the DC City Council passed the required stadium lease agreement, capping the city's expenditures on the project at $611 million. The stadium is scheduled to be for Opening Day in Spring 2008; the team currently plays at RFK Stadium. The stadium will anchor the new Ballpark District, where shops, offices, residences and other entertainment will eventually fill the area north of the stadium, and where the Navy Yard Metro station will serve as an arrival point for most stadium-goers!
Nearby the Man in the Sea Memorial Monument will be accessed by the public to enjoy and learn how military divers contributed to this great country throughout history.

The eastern branch of the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries conducted two table top exercises in April and May of 2007 as part of their disaster preparedness preparation. Labor and Industries (L&I) in Washington provides construction compliance inspections, contractor licensing and workers' compensation insurance for the state. L&I's resilience to disasters is important for community recovery efforts. The Homeland Security Policy Institute Group provided assistance in the planning, preparation and delivery of these table top exercises.
The first exercise, deemed Dark Autumn, provided managers with practice in coping with a devastating ash fall from Mt. St. Helens. The suffocating, abrasive, slippery ash can crush buildings, destroy car engines and cause electrical grid failure. The second table top exercise, Bright Spring, was a fast moving shooter/bomber scenario overflowing from the neighboring courthouse. Managers were challenged to quickly protect employees and visitors, then respond to the aftermath of the shootings. Feedback from the table top exercise has been extensive, thoughtful and shows significant learning and interest in the exercises. Administrators and managers are planning further training in response to the findings.

HSPIG donates 25 IBM P3 computers with monitors to the Paralyzed Veterans of America Long Beach Chapter as a good will offer in hope of assisting disabled vets to obtain computer skills and have access to Internet resources for retraining. The computers were donated to HSPIG by the nationally known home builder DRHorton in the San Diego, thanks go out to DRHorton for this gracious donation, and to their tech support group who went over and above expectations in getting this done, especially to James Turville who personally scrubbed all the systems, loaded the systems with working versions of Win 98 and delivered them to our facility.
